Access to the Gulflander’s third carriage is via six steps and a supporting handrail. This is exactly the same as was described in the second carriage.
There is one row of seats at the very front of the carriage, to the left of the entry doors. These seats may sometimes be booked for customers travelling with an assistance animal where floor space can be provided to comfortably accommodate the animal. Most of the seats are to the right of the doors and there are seven rows of seats on each side. In the first row (to the right of the doors) the seats face inwards towards the rest of the seats, creating a booth set up where four customers face each other. The remaining rows face forward. Seating in this carriage is also ‘bench’ style with armrests. Up to two customers may be seated on each bench.
Commentary is shared by the driver via the public address system throughout the journey, and there are sliding windows with curtains that are available to adjust, fans for comfort and overhead storage for hand luggage.
A unisex toilet is available onboard at the back of the carriage and has a basin, handwash, mirror and grab rail.
Drinking water is provided. USB charging ports are available above the luggage shelf at the rear of this carriage. These have power for small devices only (such as a mobile phone).
The guard will be located toward the end of the third carriage and supports the driver from this area. The guard’s area includes the Westinghouse emergency brake. This brake uses compressed air through a series of valves to stop the train in the event of an emergency.
That brings us to the end of the tour of the Gulflander’s railmotor and two carriages. Next we’ll describe the facilities at the platform at Normanton station.
